I’ve spoken to a number of teachers and students who attended your presentations. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Both teachers and students thought they had learned some things about the harmful effects of marijuana and other drugs mentioned that they had not heard before. They also found the talks to be both informative and entertaining. We would very much like to have you back on campus again next year to speak to our students. It would be great if you could come out once each month to address new students at Rancho Vista who would be attending our Orientation program. Again, thanks for taking the time to address our entire student body and we will be in contact with you shortly to set up additional presentations. Sincerely, Dean Lesicko Counselor Los Angeles Mission College 13356 Eldridge Avenue Sylmar, CA 91342 August 12, 2002 Narconon 900 E. Palmer Ave., Suite #5 Glendale, CA 91205 Dear Mr. Bylsma; I sincerely want to thank you for coming to Los Angeles Mission College and speaking to my Health class about drug education. The students loved the presentation and felt very comfortable asking questions. I want to also thank Mr. Peter Gillham of Conquest International for sponsoring such a valuable program. On the community college level, our students vary in age, race, socio-economic backgrounds, some are parents, and some are still in high school. By comin to Mission College and educating these students about drugs, we are not only reaching the ones who might be using drugs but also those who have children and uneducated to the effects of drugs. I look forward to your next presentation. Sincerely, Dorothy Teola Los Angeles Mission College Health Instructor To: Theta Art From: Frank Ruotolo Health Teacher Marina H.S., Huntington Beach, Cal. Topic: Narconon’s Presentation To My Health Classes The presentation was given by Tony. He was excellent! The students were super attentive and really into it. I’ve been teaching Health for 25 years and have had hundreds of speakers. Narconon’s are great! I know that Tony’s talk has helped re-inforce the students value system; “To Not Take Drugs”. You provided invaluable information to what we refer as “at risk” students - those at risk of not graduating. Many of these students - although more familiar with drugs than they should be - are not familiar with the effects and consequences of drug use on the mind and body. You did an excellent job of keeping them interested, engaged, and managed. I took notes that I will use the next time I give my own lesson about the hazards of drugs. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to he who made your visit possible: Mr. Fred Leeds of Fred Leeds Property Management. My Principal, Barbara Conniff, was heart-broken when she explained that funds were simply not in the budget for this presentation. She was pleasantly surprised when I said that Narconon had found a sponsor and the presentation was still scheduled. Thank you. You can be sure your investment was valuable and appreciated. Sincerely, Scott Galloway Teacher-Site Liaison Euclid Learning Center ACCESS/OCDE Roosevelt Elementary School 801 Montana Ave. Santa Monica, CA 90403 July 6, 2002 Dear Mr. Rosemblatt: On behalf of the fifth graders and their parents, I want to thank you for sponsoring the Narconon drug education presentations at Roosevelt School in June. I’m sure you’ll agree that getting this information to children is critical. Tony from Narconon gave his presentation to the children in a manner that was age-appropriate, authentic, and at times humorous. At the end of the presentation, the children completed surveys which reflected the impact of Tony’s message. Without your sponsorship, the school would not have been able to afford the Narconon program. Your generous support made a difference in the lives of these children. Again, thank you! His talk was very well done, bringing in many important facts regarding drugs and narcotics and how it brings your life down. He was very knowledgeable about the different types of drugs and their effects on the body and didn’t mind sharing his story of how Narconon became a part of his life. His talk was very indentifiable with many students and generated a great deal of discussion. Gerry was terrific in tackling many of the personal questions directed at him. I have enclosed a few essays written to and about Gerry’s performance in our class. His presentation was very well received and we hope to have him back in the future. The information he has to share is invaluable. Sincerely, Debbie Daniels, Health & Physical Education Department Chair 6/2001 San Gabriel High School

Gerry Marshall did a wonderful job of providing our students with valuable information about the dangers of drug and alcohol use. He presented the information to the children on a level they could relate to, while expanding their awareness of the truth about drugs. Many of the student evaluations following the program expressed, in the children’s own words, the importance and impact of the information they received. Oceanfront Newport Beach, CA 92663 Dear Gerry, Thank you very much for coming to talk with my Health classes today. Your presentation was excellent. I felt that the students were attentive and willing to listen to what you had to say. As you know, this is a tough audience. Many of my students are substance abusers and very much in denial about the possible consequences of their continued abuse. They hear lots of misinformation about drugs and choose to believe that their involvement will not affect them adversely. They are leery about speakers on “drugs” because they’ve heard it all before. You have a balanced presentation. Kids can relate to you as a person and as a former user (as someone they would consider “cool”), yet they recognize that you know what you are talking about. By sticking to the facts, keeping the tone comfortable (entertaining, yet appropriately serious) and using language at their level, your message comes across as informative and non-judgmental. Thus kids listen. Even the more hard-core kids (kids who admit to drug use) felt they learned something. The information on how our brain stores and retrieves information was interesting. Many kids could see themselves or their friends in your examples. For many of these kids, your information will give them food for thought. They may not change today or tomorrow, yet they might recognize themselves as they find themselves on that roller coaster of substance highs and lows. They may be more realistic about where they are headed. For the non-users in the group, this confirms and validates why they shouldn’t start. I would gladly recommend your presentation to fellow educators. Please use me as a reference as you contact other schools. I look forward to having you return to Valley Vista next semester and speak with students again. You are an excellent resource. To Whom It May Concern: In February, 2001, I contracted with Narconon of Southern California to provide a drug education speaker for the students of Rancho del Mar High School. Gerry Marshall spoke to my entire student body in three one hour sessions on March 22, 2001. Gerry did a terrific job addressing the issues related to drugs, youth, and society. He was able to raise our students’ level of awareness regarding the potential impact of drugs on their personal lives, without preaching. Because Gerry has overcome his own addiction to drugs, high school students see him as credible. I plan to ask Narconon to provide a speaker for the Rancho del Mar students again next year. I would be pleased if Gerry Marshall is again the presenter. He is an excellent spokesman for drug education. Sincerely yours, William E. Your discussion on drugs and their effects was very thorough. The students were most impressed with the very comforatable and open manner in which you presented the materials. As you are aware, the students that were in attendance are in a special residential program, Addiction Substance Abuse Education Recognition and Treatment Program (ASERT). The students indicated that they could identify with you due to your past experience. Your successful recovery not only made the students reevaluate their decisions to use drugs, but also gave them a sign of hope that they too can recover from the many negative challenges they have encountered due to their drug experiences. The ASERT program prides itself in assisting the students with their drug issues. Accepting the invitation to speak at Rio Contiguo School supported our efforts and we truly appreciate the very enlightening information you provided. One student in particular informed me that your presentation had definitely changed her mind in staying away from drugs. Dear Gerry Marshall, We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting our site, Orange Academy on Thursday the 17th of May. Francis Polytechnic High School 12431 Roscoe Blvd. Sun Valley, CA 91352 August 20, 2002 Dear Red Wolf Traders, On behalf of the faculty and students of Polytechnic High School, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for sponsoring the highly informative and beneficial drug education program presented by Narconon. Tony Bylsma, the Narconon educator came to our school for four days and delivered ten one-hour presentations, which reached ocer 500 students. An excellent cross-section of students participated in the program including the entire 9th grade Health and Life Skills classes and a substantial portion of the tenth and eleventh grade English classes. From the moment I contacted Sigal Adini, the program director, I was impressed with the professionalism of Narconon. She immediately sent me a detailed description of the various presentations, answered all my questions concerning the program and was more than flexible in meeting the needs of our school’s schedule. Tony continued to prove that Narconon’s services are reliable and highly effective. On all four days, Tony arrived promptly at 7:15 am and was eager to educate and interact with the students. He has a wealth of knowledge regarding the subject matter and has a wonderfully approachable and warm manner. He patiently answered all questions and comfortably facilitated a group discussion. Our students are often skeptical of guest speakers, especially those that discuss drug abuse, but Tony was able to gain their trust. I spoke with many of the students after the presentations and repeatedly I heard comments such as: “He was cool, he really knew his stuff” “He really got me thinking.” “Wow, I never knew all that stuff about drugs before. More people should hear this.” When asked if I should have him return, they all reported, “Definitely” As Coordinator of Impact, our school-wide drug prevention program, I have worked with many students who have suffered from the detrimental effects of drug abuse either from their own use or from the use of a family member or friend. Unfortunately drug abuse is a reality in our school community and drug education programs like those provided by Narconon are an essential part of combating this problem. I am confident that Tony’s presentations successfully prevented many students from ever experimenting with drugs and encouraged those who may be currently using to consider stopping or getting some help. Again, I would like to greatly thank you for sponsoring this worthwhile program. Without your generosity, we would not have been able to have Narconon come to our school, and in turn would have missed the opportunity of preventing future cases of drug abuse. Educational programs like Narconon are invaluable and because of your kindness and concern for our community’s youth, we too were able to benefit from Narconon’s powerful message. I am enclosing a few of the letters the students wrote following the presentations. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (818) 767-4860. Once again, thank you for your generosity. Dear Staff of Beautiful Artwork, We greatly appreciate the help your organization has given to Bassett Elementary by providing funding for the Narconon drug education presentation. Without help and support from organizations like yours, we would not be able to adequately educate our students and community about the dangers of drugs and drug abuse. Drug education is an important topic for children of all ages. Therefore funding from companies such as yours enable us to educate children by providing them with the knowledge to assist them in making difficult choices as they grow. Tony, the presenter from Narconon, was very knowledgeable, informative, and friendly. Our teachers and students were very pleased with the presentation. Feedback from teachers and students was quite positive. Both groups reported learning a great deal about drugs and drug abuse. Our school is always working on educating our staff, students, and parents about many of today’s social issues, especially drugs and drug abuse, so the presentation was very timely. The presenter did a terrific job on relating the long term harmful effects of continued drug usage. My students gained enormous knowledge on the facts in regards to substance abuse. The facts were broken down into simple terms as they might relate to a student who may become vulnerable to peer pressure to experiment with illicit drug use. I believe that my students may be better equipped now to resist using drugs in an abusive manner. Narconon’s presentation gave simple logistic reasons why drugs can harm the body and a young persons future life. The presentation went beyond the simple “Just Say No” response. I highly recommend this presentation to any school and group of students that Narconon may be invited to visit. They are doing an excellent service to the community and have changed many young lives as a result ! Once again, thank you for allowing Mr. Bylsma the opportunity to speak in my class. Our students are like many in today’s inner-city who attend school but never become educated. They know so very little about the world of drugs. It is with the special efforts of your company and organizations like Narconon that reach out to students, who are making a difference. I was so impressed with the Narconon presentation that I would like to have them return so they could attend to the students’ many questions. They may not appreciate the efforts we make on their behalf, but we must continue to make them. Again, thank you for your support of Narconon and our students. I appreciate you providing me the representative to come to Castelar School. It was very helpful and was particularly impressing by the topics of drugs, tobacco, alcohol and narcotics. It was helpful in preventing the students from trying drugs and learning how dangerous the drugs are. On behalf of the administrators, teachers, and students, I appreciate your health education services. Once again, I thank you for your time to give drug information to the students and hope to encourage them to avoid using drugs, or alcohol and to make the school and community a safe place to learn and live. Drug awareness is a necessity in today’s world and with the children that we have at the elementary level, the sooner that we can inform them the better the world will be for them. Thank you for coming to our school. I have included the evaluations from our students and two teachers. Thank you for your time and help. Dear Tony: It was such a pleasure to have you speak to my sixth graders at Elizabeth J. Ustach Middle School. As an educator, I always feel some concern when an “outsider”, someone whose skills I have never observed, makes a presentation to my students. I was pleasantly at ease with you from the moment you introduced yourself and more impressed when you presented your lesson. Your delivery of the content was realistic and easy for my students to understand. You were convincing, frank and appropriate to the age group. The students were very attentive and my teaching staff spoke very highly of your presentation in my discussions with them. I am so grateful that Long’s Drug Store offered us this opportunity and that you were the individual who presented the lesson. Keep up your good work. Our children are so precious, their physical and mental health require the energy and dedication of individuals like you. I thank you for providing your time, knowledge, and wisdom. You have definitely “fought the good fight” as our co-patron, St. Louis IV, wished for all of us. Sincerely, Jane M. Moffett Assistant Principal San Gabriel High School

Arcadia High School 180 Campus Drive, Arcadia, Ca 91007 February 17, 2002 Narconon Drug Prevention & Education, Inc. 900 E. Palmer Avenue, Suite #5 Glendale, CA 91205 Dear Narconon: I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest thanks to you and your wonderful sponsor, Project Drug Free Children Foundation, for providing the best drug prevention education that I have ever encountered ! Two presentations were given by your fabulous Director, Tony Bylsma, to my students in Arcadia High School’s Alternative Program and Rancho High School’s Opportunity Program and Independent Study Program. Factual information was presented using a very down-to-earth approach which is exactly what teenage students need ! I was noticeable, as I watched the reactions of the students, that they were hearing some information that surprised them. They definitely did learn something for themselves as well as information which many should pass on to their families and friends. Often times, our students are not included in activities and prevention strategies due to being off-site from the main campus and/or being considered the “continuation” school students. However, I often find that these students are the most in need. We are truly grateful for your willingness to provide this necessary education for our students. Again, thank you to everyone at Narconon and to all of those associated with Project Drug Free Children Foundation. We look forward to collaborating again next school year. Sincerely, Gina D. 4131 S. Vermont Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90030 April 18, 2002 Dear Members of Beautiful Art Works, I am a health teacher at an inner-city Los Angeles high school. My mission is to provide my students with the knowledge to make wise choices in the areas of physical, mental/emotional and social health. Drug awareness is a key component in my course, as you can imagine. The majority of our department funding for this year was spent on new textbooks, so it was necessary for me as a teacher to find non-profit organizations to deliver educational presentations as guest speakers in my classes. I find that students really appreciate and are attentive to guest speakers (a new face, voice, and outlook). Tony, from Narconon spoke with my students in April of this year. He is an especially influential educator because he speaks from years of personal experience (both as a ‘former’ addict and as one who has helped many people in rehabilitation). Tony’s presentations are so valuable! The information he shares with the students has the power to influence a significant number of them to choose a lifestyle that is free of drug abuse. Tony and his associates at Narconon were exceptionally friendly and professional. My gratitude extends not only to Tony, and Narconon, but to all of you at Beautiful Art Works. C/O Narconon Drug Prevention & Education Inc. Dear Mr. Gillham; Thank you for sponsoring our Continuation High School on April 23, and May 10, 2002. We heard an excellent presentation on substance abuse and its hidden lures. The speaker was dynamic, informative and communicated effectively to an audience of teens, many of whom are substance abusers. As a Continuation High School, we are in the business of providing a second chance for students who have not been successful in the traditional school. The majority of our students have experienced and been trapped in the cycle of substance abuse, and we know how that illness interferes with the educational process. We welcome and need community outreach organizations to continue to work with schools to encourage students to break the cycle of substance abuse in their lives. We applaud your efforts to sponsor speakers who get the message across to our young adults. Again, thank you very much. The guest speaker, Tony, was both entertaining and knowledgeable. He was well prepared and delivered a powerful message to the students. They benefited greatly from his expertise, and his real-life experiences really helped his message sink in. I like the Narconon approach to drug education. It is important to actually show young people what the drugs will do to them, and how the effects can stay with them for a long time. I is not enough just to simply tell them to stay away from drugs. In your two days here at South El Monte High School, you delivered six separate 90 minute presentations. Each presentation was to 70-80 students. A large number of our students heard your message. I would also like to thank Theta Art for their sponsorship. Their donation made these presentations possible. I feel Narconon is a wonderful organization. Thank you for all that you do. I look forward to continuing our working relationship. Best regards, Rob Burgess Health & Safety Teacher Narbonne High School 24300 W. In fact, students have requested that representatives from Narconon return to campus to spend time answering questions regarding the effects of drugs on the mind and body. Tony Bylsma spent the entire day here and presented the NARCONON Program in a way that seemed to reach the adolescent students of this school. Our school nurse, Lillie DeLeon was the contact person who scheduled this visit, special thanks to Nurse DeLeon as well. Furthermore, over 700 students were able to benefit from the NARCONON program on Friday, October 26, 2001. Some responses from the students were, “I liked it because he used them once and could talk about them from his own personal experience”, “I thought it was really cool because I learned a lot and that guy was really funny”. One response that showed the true effectiveness of Tony’s presentation was, “I thought it was funny and it taught you about drugs in a way that you will remember”. Also, another program I would like to thank is Project Drug Free Children who supports educating children on the effects of drug abuse. Another response from a student was, “1. It was cool. 2. It was funny. 3. It was interesting. 4. I enjoyed it. 5. Please come back next year!” I believe this student said it all. Los Nietos Middle School sincerely appreciates your efforts. Mr. Marshall’s presentation was informative, captivating and appreciated by all that attended. With our student population of at risk youth, this presentation was right on target. Mr. Marshall gave his personal experiences and insights to support his important message concerning drugs and drug abuse. He was able to communicate effectively with our students by presenting the material in a text that students could related to and as a result was successful in getting the message across to the students. He was able to answer all questions generated by students in a way that made the students feel that their question was important. We are very fortunate to have these services available to us and we are looking forward to a lasting relationship with Narconon. We have had different presentations from various entities in the past. For the students, Narconon has been the most educational of them all. The presenters visited each class. Students had time to listen and think about the information and materials and respond with questions. This was very grade and age level appropriate. Some of the parents commented that the children had come home and discussed what they had learned at the Narconon presentation. Narconon 900 E. Palmer #5 Glendale, CA 91205 Dear Mr. Bylsma, I want to thank you again for coming out to speak with my eighth grad Health Science classes. Your presentation on Drug Awareness was both entertaining and informative. The students were captivated by your talk and were provided with the opportunity to hear detailed information regarding the effects of drugs on one’s mental, social and physical health. Even though students in Health Science participate in the nine-day Project Alert substance abuse prevention unit, your lesson provided them with the perfect “booster shot” needed just before summer break. Additionally, current educational research is indicating a trend toward harm reduction as an effective means of drug education. Your ability to customize your presentation and speak candidly about the risks of Ecstasy helped students to understand the seriousness of its nature. Finally, I thank you for providing us with the excellent brochures, including contact phone numbers for anyone needing help. One student asked for an extra, saying someone she knew would benefit from the information. I hope we can continue to work together to meet the needs of our students. Sincerely, Lori Fallace Health Teacher P.S. Many thanks to Project Drug Free Children. Please continue with your support for this successful program! Tony Bylsma 900 E. Palmer Ave. Suite #5 Glendale, CA 91205 May 4, 2001 Dear Tony, I would like to express my gratitude to you and the Narconon Drug Prevention and Education Program for speaking to five classes of fourth and fifth graders at our school. Your presentation captivated the students and really helped deliver the message that drugs can ruin your life. The students benefited from hearing your story and from seeing your illustrations on the chalkboard. They were interested in hearing you speak about how commercials affect people. This will make them more aware of the subtle advertising they are constantly bombarded with. I enjoyed the way you developed good rapport with the students and made them feel comfortable enough to ask you questions. They really opened up and were not afraid to ask about drugs. I would also like to thank your sponsor, Project Drug-Free Children, for supporting this wonderful program. All of our fourth and fifth grade students go one more assembly teaching them about drugs this year than they would have had if it were not for Project Drug-Free Children. Thank you for taking the time to come and speak with our students. It really made a difference to them. I tend to lose their interest within the first half-hour of class! I liked the way you spoke about different drugs and the effects on one’s body as well as mind. I also enjoyed the topic about commercialism and advertisement. This topic really opened up the student’s minds and hopefully will make them more aware about drug advertisement and lead them to smarter choices. But most of all, I enjoyed the way you interacted with the students and made them feel comfortable enough to ask you questions that was of importance or concern to them, without them feeling judged or belittled.
