Research Members Take Online Questionnaire
Human-Computer Interaction Institute

Project Massive was created to survey players of massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) about their play experience, group membership, and communication tool usage both inside and outside of the gaming environment. The goals of this first phase of Project Massive include the following:

(1) To find out what tools players use most to communicate with each other
(2) To find out what factors make guilds and other player organizations successful

With your help, this research will support the future design of better, more rewarding games for all of us. All responses will be confidential. We may ask you your character's name or the name of your guild, but this information will only be used to cross-reference with server data from the game you play (e.g. Dark Age of Camelot XML). Once the association between the survey and the server data is made, your character and guild name will be deleted from our records. Also, we will never publish or release character or guild names. So answer with confidence in our discretion, we won't tell a soul.

Just to make it a little more enticing, we are offering 1 in every 100 respondents to this survey three free months in the MMOG of their choice. This will be delivered to you in the form of a check for $39 (39 USD). All you need to do to become eligible is complete the survey and then enter your email address on the last page. click here for the fine print

This independent research based at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA is not commercially sponsored. When the survey is complete, the results and analysis will be published here for free, public download and use.
