The LTI Student
Research Symposium is a one-day series of presentations by LTI students on
any research topic currently pursued at the LTI. The Symposium will be held
during the last week of Immigration Courses (IC), and will provide students
with the opportunity to showcase their work to current LTI members as well
as incoming LTI students. PhD and MS students are invited to submit
abstracts on original language technologies work conducted at the LTI.
Among the submissions, around ten abstracts will be selected for presentation. One
of the presentations will be selected for a "Best Presentation
Award", which will be announced at the end of the Symposium. The
winner of the "Best Presentation Award" will receive a cash prize
of $500. Additionally, two Honorable Mentions will be selected, each
receiving a cash prize of $100. The presentation slides will be kept publically available online on the Symposium website.
Presenters are encouraged to link additional papers or publications related
to their topic of presentation.
Requirements
Presentations should
focus on the research of LTI students. While it is acceptable to situate
that research within a framework provided by the work of others, the main
topic of each presentation should be the student’s
own research. Both completed and on-going research efforts are welcomed,
including work at early stages.
Because the target
audience of SRS presentations will be the entire LTI research community,
submissions should avoid focusing too deeply on very specific details of a
particular area, assuming background knowledge that the majority of the
audience may not possess. Introductory and background information that
helps the audience understand the research problem being discussed is both
appropriate and encouraged, but the main portion of presentations should be
dedicated to novel research.
Presentation
Format
Each presentation slot
will be 30 minutes long, with 20 minutes for the presentation itself and 10
minutes for questions.
Submission
Format
Submissions for the
LTI SRS will be in the form of short abstracts. We strongly recommend the
abstracts to be less than 400 words long, not including references. Only
PostScript, PDF, MS-Word and plain text
submissions will be accepted. There are no requirements regarding the
specific format of abstracts.
Submission
Procedure
Abstracts should be
sent by email to Benjamin Han (
benhdj+srs AT cs DOT cmu.edu
