Telepresence allows someone to experience a place or situation without being there through computer interface technology, communication technology, remote sensing or telerobotics. Systems facilitate experience over distance, scale, or diverse sensory modalities. Applications have allowed people to experience other worlds or to interact with people in more intuitive ways. The field spans contemporary technologies such as the internet, wireless communication, cameras/sensing, videoconferencing, telerobotics and virtual reality. Telepresence can bring about advances in science, education, entertainment, communication and numerous other fields.
