Free woodworking plans
Below you will find some of the free woodworking plans to be found on the net. Much of the information was gathered from the newsgroup rec.woodworking (also available via google groups). This list is far from complete. I'd suggest you learn to use a search engine like Altavista or Google. Just type in the project name you want to do, and "plans". This will help you find all sorts of things.
Also note that some links i've HTMLified and others i have not, only reason is that i havn't got to it yet. use cut and paste and things should work just fine.
Help me keep this page "clean"

------------------------
For working mix:
1 quart skim milk
1/3 cup Slaked (hydrated) lime
1/4 cup Boiled linseed oil
1 Tbsp. Cornstarch
1 to 1 1/2 lb. whiting or powdered pigments. PROCEDURE: Blend the milk,

Isn't that a fancy name for potassium permanganate?
Or alternatively you could do this.
Prepare a solution of 6 ounces of potassium permanganate and 6 ounces of
magnesium sulphate in 2 quarts of hot water. Simply apply with a brush until
you get desired effect. lightly sand with 22o and then apply finish. Check out
your local pharmacist or chemical supply house for supplies.
++++++++++++++++++++++
WHITEYS TIMBER POLISH
Part One.
Sand up to 400-600 grade paper & rub with 0000 steel wool. Mix equal
parts of raw tung oil, boiled linseed oil & satin poly-urethane. Rub
oil mix into timber with clean, soft cloth. Rub well in & then remove
all excess oil with clean cloth. Repeat this 3-4 times.
Part Two.
Mix equal parts of raw tung oil & boiled linseed oil in a small pot &
place inside a larger pot. Pour water into the larger pot until half
way up the outsides of the smaller pot. Then place onto hot plate &
heat up the oil mix slowly. When warm, place a handful of shredded
beeswax into the oils, & when all the wax has melted, remove from
heat. Stir until cooled (usually takes 2 beers) & then keep this
creamy mix in a air tight jar. This will keep indefinately.
Rub this into timber 3-6 times (depends on project) & make sure you
remove all excess oil. This method of polishing furniture dates back
to the 18th century & was handed down to me by my Father (Master
Craftsman). Remember to soak all oily rags in water after use, as
they can self combust, (& burn down the bloody workshop). This polish
will repel water, red wine, coffee & hot plate stains. It gives the
most warm, earthy, touching feel to anything you will ever see. It
invites people to touch your furniture, as nature intended.
Any queries ? ring or Email me. Only too pleased to pass on this
wonderful finish.
Warm regards.
Gary White.

subject: Re: FREE PLAN - shop vac muffler
Just a note to anyone considering building the shop-vac muffler.
I have the one that was built in the course of writing that article,
and I have a few "tips"...
1) put the exhaust out the side, not out the top.
2) Get some REALLY heavy duty casters for it (100-400 lbs cap. each)
3) Adjust the plans so that (after taking into account the height of
the casters) the top of the case will be whatever you find a good
working height (i.e. the same height as your workbench/table saw
top/etc).
and, if you're really into measuring/mounting everything....
4) Figure out how to put a common base (maybe 3/4 inch plywood) on all
your "portable" tools (thickness planer, CMS, bench grinder, etc).
Make the bases so they all have holes in the same place to be able to
get threaded knobs through the base and into the threaded inserts
you'll put in from the inside surface of the top of the cabinet.
This way you'll have a really nice, rolling workbench with built in
dust collection!

subject: Free Plan Web page.
After talking to JOAT and get a very definate "no i'm not going to
create a web page - do it yourself" i have decided gather the
wonderful links myself.
Right now it's just a no frills bunch of links gathered from JOAT
posts and my own searching.
The eventual format will be such that you can look things up by subject.
(Bedroom:beds:poster or Bedroom:Wardrobes etc..)
I know there is a section on plans in the FAQ, but many were
fruitless, and there seems to be alot more out there.
If someone else is already doing this, i'd be glad to work with them
to get a centralized/organized location.

subject: FREE PORTABLE THRONE PLAN
I was journeying to the waste lands, with the citizens lining the
road, pelting me with offal, and shouting "unclean", "unclean". But
then I received these plans from their designer, Steve Maynard, and so
interrupted my journey to post this..
I was very impressed many weeks ago when I ran across them, and
posted them on the group. Unfortunately, the link died almost
immediately, and very few were able to see them.
A few weeks ago I decided to try to get them back. As it turned
out I contacted the wrong people, but they knew who Steve is, and were
gracious enough to pass my request to him.
I asked if he would put the plans back so they would be available,
and asked if he had any objection to me posting them on the group. He,
in turn, graciously said he would make them available, send me the URL,
and I could post them on the group.
So here is the throne itself, scroll down to the bottom of the
page. Simple really, but neat as hell in my opinion.
http://www.users.bigpond.com/s.maynard/study.htm
And here is the plan.
http://www.users.bigpond.com/s.maynard/three%20pieces.jpg
Now you all can be rulers of your domains
I now re-don my sackcloth, sprinkle ashes on my head, and resume my
trek into the waste lands.

subject: Re: hope chest plans
Jim,
New Yankee Workshop did one that is fairly popular, and not too
difficult.
http://www.newyankee.com/GetProduct2.cgi?104
Here is a free one that is pretty good too:
http://www.americanwoodworker.com/200002/project_of_the_month.html
Neither of these uses dovetailed corners. Plansnow.com has a couple
chests that use dovetailed corners, which you can download for $5 or $6:

Again people, I do NOT save these URLs, so if you want them save
them. If I am interested in something I print it immediately, or save
it just long enough to print it, then discard it. If you want one I
previously posted, do NOT ask me for it, just go to the archives (URL

And I do NOT plan to start a webpage with all these URLs on it, so
don't even ask.
