- If you're interested in game programming and VR, here's an interesting software platform
you can look at:
CaveUT is a set of open-source modifications which allow the use of
the high-powered video game Unreal Tournament in a multi-screen display.
It is already running in the PC-based "cave" at UPMC and in the Earth
Theater at the Carnegie. Unreal Tournament has the flexibility to serve as
an efficient software platform for virtual reality applications.

For animated-film-lovers:
The Adventures of Prince Achmed
This rare and beautiful film from 1926 is one of the very first animated
feature films. And there's never been anything like it. Loosely based on A
Thousand and One Arabian Nights, and created by 23-year-old Lotte Reiniger,
the story is told with amazingly detailed silhouettes. She experimented with
paper cutouts, multi-plane camera techniques, as well as wax and sand on the
film stock itself. The silhouettes involve Aladdin and his lamp, a magical
horse, a sorcerer, a princess and an ogress. While worth seeing for the
novelty alone, this rarely seen film is a masterpiece in the history of
cinema. (Directed by Lotte Reiniger; Germany; 1926; 66 min) Melwood
Screening Room, Oakland: Fri. Nov. 9 @ 7:30; Sat. Nov. 10 @ 5:30, Sun. Nov.
11 @ 3:00

Assignment 1 correction:
In the assignment 1 distributed last week, there is a warning paragraph for using fdesign.
We found that we don't have the program now (thanks Rob). We suggest you use the fluid program
to modify your user interface. An updated version of assignment 1 has been put on the
assignment web page.
Sorry for the mistake.

The bookstore believes that they have now placed the order correctly (3rd time is the charm, I hope). The
combined package should arrive today (Monday 9/10) sometime after 1:30pm. You will need to return
the book and primer that you may have purchased already and buy the new package.
The bookstore says that they will take the book and/or primer back even though it is
past the official date for returning books.
We're very sorry for this (ongoing) hassle.
