In June and July of 1997, the robot Nomad will traverse the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile. Nomad will travel an unprecedented 200 km in 40 days, controlled by visitors at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, PA. This NASA funded research program will test technologies critical to planetary exploration and enable scientists at Pittsburgh and NASA Ames Research Center to perform remote geological experiments.
