Accordion Poetry
Yes, I have been the lucky recipient of accordion poetry in the mail!
I love this stuff. If you are a budding accordion poet and would like
to send me a poem, write me at phoebe@cs.cmu.edu.
The Sound of Music
By Dan Novinc, dnovinc@wviz-nt1.wviz.org
The accordion amuses, inspires and entertains,
With each single note, each melodious refrain.
It's sound is distinct, romantic and charming,
Play it at a whisper, and it's never alarming.
Stretch the bellows with the last of your might,
And the Heavens will open for a thunderous delight.
Let the keys be directed by fingers in motion,
Don't follow those bases, it's too much commotion.
So strap on your squeezebox and brace for the thrill,
The crowd's gonna love you, you know that they will.
With excitement mounting, one choice does yet remain,
will it be "Nola", "Tico-Tico", or "Lady of Spain?
Accordion Poetry
By Don Larson, donl@hpclpax.cup.hp.com
You know its late when all the Fellows
look to their sweets to share their pillows
So you, the musician, fill your Bellows
You tinkle your keys playing something Mellow
While couples dance 'till their will is like Jello
They retire to their rooms to snuggle on a Pillow
Button Brothers
By Dan Bennett, (dan@hpwina39.uksr.hp.com)
C is for Charlie, he's a major in the army,
An' his brother (also Charlie) is a miner.
And Charlie the Seventh (he's the one who's slightly barmy)
Is a dominant kind o' guy who lives in China.
And Charlie the Diminished, whose useful life has finished
Sings lots and lots of notes all close together,
But Sub Bass E does not begin with C...
He's the kinky one who's always wearing leather.
Black Accordion
Sent to me by Jack (ron_s@verifone.com)
For five bucks at a pawn shop
At 19 Northway Mall
You can have some knives and pots
Really nothing much at all
But for fifty you may have
a thing that's never sold
a shiny black accordion
old leather straps to hold
With mother-of-pearl all around
and ragged edges three
with inlaid carving and bright keys
so valuable to me.
And the sound the sound is
bound and round
bound and round and velvety
bound to make you laugh
pat such a happy sound.
A box to boot and keep it in
and dust and children out,
a padlock for tomorrow , when
a bent brass key
will bring it out again..
