Tutor Authoring Tools That Help Spread Technology and Facilitate Research

I am one of the Principal Investigators in a project to create the Cognitive Tutor Authoring Tools (see http://ctat.pact.cs.cmu.edu). These tools very significantly facilitate the development of Cognitive Tutors and a new type of tutors called Example-tracing Tutors. The latter type can even be created by non-programmers. At the time of this writing, CTAT has been used by over 300 users, many of them in workshops or courses. The technology is spreading into real-world courses (e.g., some of the on-line courses being created at CMU as part of the Open Learning Initiative). It also has been used as a platform for research in learning sciences and technology, in real educational settings, in over 20 research projects.
