Research Learning with instructional technology is a growing area of research as more and more academic and informal learning takes place online. I am most excited by research projects that both tell us something new about how people learn and provide a better way of designing technology-enhanced learning environments. My research focuses on intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs), broadly defined as software "tutors" whose design is informed by cognitive theory and cognitive modeling, and that can adapt instruction to the needs of learners, often using some form of artificial intelligence.
