Sarah Theresa Craig

Loss

On May 22nd, 1996 at 12:18 am Sarah Craig was walking with three of her friends from Harvard along the side of the road near her home in Norfolk. They were visiting with her while they all had a break between exams. A pickup truck driven by a drunk Steven T. Driscoll come up behind them. Evidence indicates he decided to scare them and swerved towards the girls. He ended up clipping Lucy, throwing her into her friend walking next to her, and then hit Sarah full on, facturing her skull at its base, and dragging her on his hood until he stopped. She and Lucy were flown by Lifestar to seperate hospitals in Hartford. And while her friends recovered, on May 24th, 1996 at 10:30 am, Sarah Theresa Craig died of the injuries she had sustained.

Sarah meant more to me than almost anyone else I've ever known, and was one of the brightest, kindest and most worthwhile people I've ever met. I know that many people feel similarly.

This page's purpose is to allow as much of her work and memory as possible to survive and be available to the people who knew and loved her, and to any who can benefit from it.

If you would like to be notified of updates and additions to this page, please let me know.

Works and Memories

A copy of Sarah's obituary is here.

Despite having the Dean of Harvard University speak at her memorial service, Sarah's account was eventually erased. However, before that happened I preserved all of her web pages, and have reproduced her site here. Of particular note is her incredible list of Mythology links.

A mutual friend, Sarah McDougal, also has created a memorial page. You can find it here.

This is a page of pictures of Sarah.

I have finally put Dandelion Seeds online. This is a collection of Sarah's writing that she gave me for my birthday in 1994. My favorite is We Should Be In Study Hall. I've now got a rudimentary OCR'd text version up as well. Many of the texts still need to be cleaned up a bit, and IE seems to drop the carriage returns.

On May 17, 2001, the Litchfield County Times ran an article about Sarah's death, and her mother Valerie's continuing fight in court.

Another articleabout Sarah's death and the subsequent changes in Connecticut's drunk driving laws ran in the August 26, 2001 Hartford Courant.

The articles references above are no longer at the initial addresses, but can be found by searching for "Sarah Craig" or "Valerie Craig", Sarah's mother's name, here
