Midterm Grade Calculation

At the time that midterm grades were required, the following assignments had been graded.
Daily Exercises 1 - 12
Project 1
Exams 1 and 2
At midterms, all of the first 12 daily exercises were counted. For the final, only the best 16 will be counted.

To determine how to weight these components at the time of midterms, I first calculated how much of the total grade is associated with the individual components so far.

12/16 = 3/4 of the daily exercises were graded and the DE is weighted at 20%; hence 15% of the total final grade is collected via exercises.
1/6 of the projects were graded and the projects are weighted at 20%; hence 3% of the total final grade is collected via projects
2/3.5 of the exams are graded and the exams are weighted at 40%; hence 23% of the total final grade is collected via exams.
In total, 41% of the course grade has been determined by midterm. With this figure, I was then able to give appropriate weights to the individual components.
Daily exercises accounted for 35% of your midterm grade (0.35 is an approximation of 15/41 = 0.366).
Exams accounted for 55% of your midterm grade (0.55 is an approximation of 23/41 = 0.561)
Projects accounted for 10% of your midterm grade (0.10 is an approximation of 3/41 = 0.073)
