Midterm exam study guidelines
1. REQUIRED MATERIAL based on which you will be examined:
1.1. From the textbook (Ramakrishnan and Gehrke's "Database Management Systems", 3rd Edition.)
- Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 10: all sections
- Chapter 5: up to (and including) 5.6
- Chapter 9: all except 9.2
Note: It is not sufficient to only read the lecture notes - you must study the material from the textbook!
1.2. Foils
All the material in instructor lecture foils that are on the web and in any additional handout given out in the class.
2. Old midterm exams
Here are some old midterm exams: Fall 2000, Fall 2001, Spring 2003, Spring 2003 with answers. Some include questions based on material that we will cover
later in the semester - just ignore those questions! Although some of these exams may allow
open books and calculators, remember to read the guidelines below for this exam!!!
3. Additional information:
Practice with the exercises in the textbook!
ABSOLUTELY NO AIDS(books, notes, or electronic devices of any kind) are allowed.
