I'm sorry to hear you've been having trouble running MERGE-AI!
Alternate procedure:
- Go into directory CL Applications
- Go into directory Data Analysis
- Try double-clicking run-MERGE-9598.bat or run-MERGE-NTXPME2000.bat
- Error messages may come up. Nonetheless, please wait a minute to see
if a login window comes up. (If you get an abort/retry/fail, please choose
"abort") The login window might not appear onscreen but might be in the
task bar in the bottom of the screen. If this is the case, trying clicking
it in the task bar.
- If no login window comes up, please download run-MERGE-altscript.bat , by
right-clicking on it, and choosing "Save Link As". Make sure to
place this file in directory Data Analysis.
- Double-click run-MERGE-altscript.bat
- Wait two minutes to see if the login window comes up
- If this doesn't work, try rebooting and running
run-MERGE-altscript.bat (if you get a "Bad Command" message, skip this
step and go to the next step)
- If it still doesn't work, reboot.
- After rebooting, go into directory Data Analysis.
- Double-click DATutor.exe
- Wait 30 seconds, and double-click start-java3.bat
- If this does not work (after 2 minutes), email me a summary of what
popped up in the black windows when you ran it by running DATutor.exe and
start-java3.bat. I'll see if I can figure out what's going wrong.
Error message:
"My firewall software claims that your software is attempting to
connect to the internet!"
- MERGE-AI has two processes which communicate with each other
through a method called TCP-IP. TCP-IP is often used over the internet,
and your firewall is incorrectly assuming all uses of TCP-IP are over the
internet. (Several old firewall programs have this flaw).
- If you can disconnect from the internet, and temporarily turn off
your firewall program while using the tutor, this should fix the problem.
Remember to turn your firewall back on before reconnecting to the
internet.
- If you don't know if you have a firewall running, and you have
Windows XP, you probably have Microsoft Firewall running. To turn
Microsoft Firewall off, do as follows:
- Click on "Start" in the bottom-left corner
- Click on Control Panel
- Choose Network Connections
- For everything that shows up on the right side of the window:
- Right-click on it
- Choose "Properties"
- Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top right of the window
that comes up
- Turn off "Internet Connection Firewall"
- Reboot your system and DO NOT connect to the internet
(make sure to turn "Internet Connection Firewall" back on before
reconnecting)
- Run MERGE-AI by running run-merge-altscript.bat.
Error message:
"Can't find cognitive modeller" pops up in a window!
- This is usually due to having a firewall running. Read the
instructions above.
If you still can't get it to work, email
me .
